Vince Zampella, the mind behind the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a vehicle crash in Los Angeles, California he was 55 years old.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio which he helped establish.

The influential game designer died after his car crashed and caught fire on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends, those closest to him, and the countless individuals inspired by his work," a representative from Electronic Arts commented.
