Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
