Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
