Iran Reports Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
