Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are among the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
