Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
