A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a wealth of pursuits far superior than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using meditation skills to refrain from arguing with family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements surfaced over the festive period, and if you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which might be a positive development. Yet, the main art for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has yet to be revealed.
